First off, I should probably apologize to you.

I’m going to be the one responsible for giving you an annoying earworm* today. I’m going to be talking about the Danger Zone. If you’re like me, the one thing you end up thinking of when you hear “Danger Zone,” whether you want to or not, is the old Kenny Loggins song from the original Top Gun movie. (If you don’t remember it, click here to remind yourself.)

The Danger Zone I want to talk about has nothing to do with the Navy, jets, or Tom Cruise in general. (Which is a massive relief if you are like me and not a Tom Cruise fan.)

I want to talk to you about the Danger Zone inside your brain.

You probably know it by another name: The Comfort Zone. The Comfort Zone is where things are easy and, well, comfortable. It is not a place where one goes to get things accomplished.

Especially things that take some effort, such as learning a new language, piping up in a meeting with a new idea, studying for exams, or just making sure that your laundry…
