How Using the Wisdom of Toddlers Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
Learning to walk has a lot in common with making changes
As we move into the new year, you’re probably full of ideas about new goals and habits you want to incorporate into your life. And what better time to start than with a bright, shiny new calendar? I’m a big fan of setting new goals and adding new effective habits into our lives.
But I also know that the human tendency to jump in all gung ho and try to radically change your life all at once doesn’t work.
Your uncomfortably uprooted status quo struggles with the new changes, rebels, and ultimately, you end up reverting back to where you were. Too much too soon just doesn’t work for new goals and habits.
I’m not trying to discourage you from setting goals and planning changes for 2022. On the contrary, I heartily endorse it, but with a caveat: believe in the power of baby steps and start small.
Rather than jumping in and trying to make any number of enormous changes all at once, do the opposite. Learn from the wisdom of babies everywhere: you have to walk before you can run.
