Remove Your Emotions To Get More Done
Your emotional labels are causing procrastination
One of the prime places where procrastination rears its head is when you want to get started on something. Often, the only reason you put off getting started is that you don’t feel like it. Maybe the project you need to work on feels boring, or too hard, or it’s confusing, or you’re just in a bad mood.
The good news is: you don’t have a lack of motivation or willpower. Rather, you have just given your task an emotional label, and it is preventing you from getting started.
Think about doing your taxes. No one is really that excited about doing taxes. Even with the IRS extending the tax deadline this year, it’s a rare person who is eager to do their taxes (My CPA excluded.) For the rest of us, taxes require a lot of paperwork, solid attention to detail, and the ability to translate instructions that really don’t make sense.
Not exactly a full-on laugh-fest where you want to spend a lot of time. Emotionally, this is not an exciting task to do. So you may be like millions of U.S. citizens who put off the job of doing their taxes until the last minute (or throw their hands up in the air and file extensions.)
