The Easy Way to Come Up With Better Ideas That No One Ever Talks About
As much as we’d like to be able to summon ideas on demand, most of us can’t
When do you get your best ideas? I’m guessing it’s not when you are sitting at your desk trying to come up with them. It’s probably not when you’re brainstorming with others. It’s definitely not when you are staring at a blank piece of paper.
Ideas are fragile, shy little things that don’t show up on demand.
The key to coming up with better ideas isn’t doubling down on your deep thinking or brainstorming time. Actually, it’s the opposite. It’s walking away and doing something different, so fragile, shy ideas can emerge from a brain that is entirely focused … on something else.
A woman in my mastermind group calls this “thinking better by not thinking,” which is kind of magical.
Imagine how great it would be to get smarter without studying or get in shape without exercising. This is kind of the same thing. Walking away and doing something else so the shy idea can come out of hiding and present itself to the world without you having to do any of the heavy lifting. This works whether you are coming up with ideas on your own or part of a brainstorming team.
